Since the first UN conference on the Human Environment in 1972 there has been a great deal of talk about sustainability. There are some major initiatives in the Middle East where people are taking responsibility and showing leadership in addressing the challenges of reducing water consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. The UN Sustainable Development Goals are demanding the government and businesses report their successes progress - is this an opportunity for MENA countries to get credit for their achievements?
