Company NameWomen in Travel CIC

Alessandra Alonso is Founder of Women in Travel CIC, a social enterprise dedicated to leveraging the travel and tourism industry in order to empower women economically and on a personal level. Alessandra also works as freelance business consultant, coach and lecturer, and over the last twenty years she has worked with many prestigious organisations in the private and public sector, either directly or as appointed consultant.

As co-founder of Shine People & Places (2004) I pioneered the use of structured mentoring in Travel & Tourism - now widely used in the industry - and designed and run the UK Shine Awards for Women’s Achievement in Travel Tourism Leisure and Hospitality which run for 6 years before being taken over by the National Skills Council (People1st) in 2010. Before that she worked at KPMG as senior industry manager and prior to KPMG she was assistant director strategy at the WTTC.

Since then she has set up independently and continue to support organisations in Travel & Tourism, Education and the Third Sector, as well as being appointed Visiting Lecturer in Tourism & Events at the University of Hertfordshire’s Business School.

Gender issues in the working environment and mentoring remain her great passions; time and again my experience proves that mentoring can transform the way people (and particularly women) work, develop and are able to maximise their potential. My expertise include business strategy, business planning, marketing, learning & development.

Alessandra has a business degree from the University of Florence, Italy; an MSc in European Studies from the LSE and an executive MBA from the University of Edinburgh (UK) and Louvain (Belgium) combined. Alessandra speak 5 languages.
